TL;DR I surrender

So. Tired. Can't. Even.

I was going to title this post "I give up", but that has really negative connotations, and this is not necessarily a negative communication. But I have finally, without a doubt, surrendered to the torrent of ever-changing rules from GW this year.

Forgeworld Mechanicus units up for preorder

Oh My. Here's the page.

The Thallaxii are heavily augmented cyborg shock-troops used by the Mechanicum Ordo Reductor, and they differ from the Skitarii regiments both in purpose and the unique degree of their augmetics. The Lorica Thallax was developed from power armour technology and requires a robust human specimen.

The Lorica encloses the major organs, nervous system and cerebrum, but entirely replaces the skeletal structure and limbs with armoured bionics powered by an internal reactor-core. Surgical excision of the subject’s pain sensors, emotions, and normal human sensory apparatus and the agony caused by the Lorica’s implantation, leaves the Thallax a cold, calculating killing machine (albeit one that retains a degree of independent thought).

To some among the Mechanicum, this operation skirts the edge of abomination, yet the baleful Ordo Reductor continue Thallax conversion regardless; using suitable Forge Guard, fallen Skitarii, and other subjects obtained from more mysterious sources.

Necron painters...a word, please.

It just occurred to me that I've been watching a Necron every night for the past few years.
I want to pre-apologize for my laziness. What I SHOULD be doing is scouring the various forums out there and asking for advice. But now that more than 2 people are looking at my blog once in a while, I thought I would give this a shot.

I'll make it quick: I've bought the makings of a 1500-2000 pt Necron force and a 2500 pt Eldar/Dark Eldar force with a Harlequin theme. I want to take my time on the Eldar, which means I need to be quick with the Necrons.

So here are three questions, please answer in the comments.

1. Prime with black and then basecoat with Boltgun, or basecoat with Boltgun (I have an Army Painter spray equivalent) and wash with Badab Black? I don't want to drybrush at this point, and I will detail later, but I need that crucial first step done right. Any thoughts?

2. Will the Pylon (FW) be 40k legal at some point?

3. Immortals or Deathmarks (if you had to choose one or the other)?

Thank you kindly.

Zone Mortalis: my cup runneth over

Fresh on the heels of the Nid/Space Wolf second wave comes a new set of experimental rules for close quarters or Space Hulk-style fighting - ZONE MORTALIS

The special rules cover bulkhead doors, modifications to blast templates in tight quarters, and other interesting rules. My favorite rule in this set states that if a unit that is falling back comes within 1" of another until, THAT unit has to pass a Morale test or fall back as well. Blind panic, indeed!

I also like the modified FOC for a game that does not mix Zone Mortalis and regular 40k rules. If the scenario calls for an attacker and defender a la Planetstrike, the attacker's minimum loadout is 1 HQ, 1 elite. The defender's minimum loadout is 1 HQ, 1 Troop. I'm sure this was done to promote boarding terminators.

There's a lot more to love about these experimental rules. Like Killzone, this may prompt me to create a small army for every faction.

What's your favorite part of these rules. Do you think you'll be able to incorporate these into your gaming meta?
